The San Fernando Valley Literacy Council needs volunteers to teach English as a second language courses and literacy classes to adults. Tutor training will be given Saturday and March 28. Classes run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Sepulveda United Methodist Church, 15435 Rayen St., North Hills. For more information, call (818) 893-5216.

The Valley Women’s Center is looking for volunteers to work at a booth Thursday at the Ending Violence Against Women 1998 Conference at CSUN. Volunteers are also needed for the Health Fair Expo on April 22 at Valley College in Van Nuys. The Volunteer Center Assistance League of Southern California seeks volunteers to help public schools with fund-raising. Volunteers are also needed to answer telephones and do other office work at the schools. The center is also seeking people to help design a garden project for a social service agency. The Valley Trauma Center, which provides sexual assault crisis services for the Valley, is seeking volunteers to staff its 24-hour crisis hotline. The center provides a 60-hour training program for all volunteers. For more information, contact the center at (818) 772-0196.
