Proposal Restricts RV, Trailer Parking
Complaints from residents that trailers and recreational vehicles are overstaying their welcome in alleys and neighborhoods has prompted the city to initiate plans to get them off the streets.
According to existing city laws, the owners of recreational vehicles and trailers are not permitted to park their oversized vehicles on the street overnight. But when they do, the municipal code requires the city wait 72 hours before declaring the vehicle abandoned.
Now, a proposed ordinance would restrict parking hours to five hours or 12 hours for loading and unloading of merchandise or passengers. A 36-hour extension can be obtained verbally by calling the Sheriff’s Department at the time the vehicle is parked.
The City Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at 100 Avenida Presidio.
