Bank Account Opened for Fired Police Chief

Supporters of former Police Chief John R. Robertson, whose firing last month sparked a continuing controversy, have opened a bank account in his name to accept donations for legal fees and family emergencies.

“The city thought he was dead,” said community activist Carole Walters, who is also organizing a fund-raiser. “But people have called me and they want to help.”

The account for Robertson is at the People’s Bank of California, 216 E. Chapman Ave., Orange, CA 92866.

Robertson was suspended with pay and then fired four months later for investigating the city manager and City Council members to find the source of a leaked document. Other charges included insubordination and allegations of a hostile workplace at the Police Department.

After his termination, Robertson charged that city officials had wanted him out because he was looking into corruption at City Hall. He is expected to file a wrongful-termination suit.
