High-Tech Program Planned for School
The Los Alamitos Unified School District is adding high-tech skills to its graduation requirements.
High school graduates will be able to design and produce Web pages and multimedia presentations.
“We want all of our students to have access to this source of information,” said Elaine Hamada, the district’s coordinator of special projects.
At Monday’s Board of Education meeting, she presented a plan to start teaching computer basics in kindergarten, require eighth-graders to type 25 words per minute and have high school seniors producing multimedia reports created from a variety of computer sources.
No date was set for starting the new computer curriculum. School officials and parent volunteers plan to install all the wiring and computer hardware in classrooms. The goal is to have at least one Internet-ready computer in every classroom.
The district also plans to offer forums to bring parents up to speed on Internet skills their children may already have.
