The city is taking applications for its Team Beverly Hills Leadership Program, a project that strives to increase civic awareness and participation.

The program permits 25 residents each year to become familiar with the city’s components--including government services, businesses and schools--through lectures and field trips, program Chairman Larry Kohn said.

Leadership program--An item in The Times’ News in Brief on Wednesday gave an incorrect application deadline for the Team Beverly Hills Leadership program. Applications are due April 2. Participants’ names will be announced April 21.

“Most people get involved in city government because they have a problem,” Kohn said. “This is an opportunity to create a group of people who want to get involved because they care.”

Since the program’s inception two years ago, many graduates have served on city commissions or on the school board, said Robin Chancellor, a city spokeswoman.

Those residents who wish to participate must have lived in Beverly Hills for two or more years and attend 10 sessions between June and December.

Applications are available on the third floor of City Hall and are due by April 21. For more information, contact the city at (310) 285-1000.
