RESEDA PASTOR PROMOTED: The Rev. Emma C. Moore-Kochlacs, pastor of Reseda United Methodist Church, has been named San Diego District superintendent. Bishop Roy I. Sano, who heads the Pasadena-based California-Pacific Conference, said the appointment will be effective July 1. Pastor in Reseda since 1993, Moore-Kochlacs was co-pastor of Redlands First United Methodist Church from 1991 to 1993, and co-pastor of Culver-Palms United Methodist Church from 1986 to 1991. Her husband, Peter Moore-Kochlacs, will continue in his role as conference director of environmental ministries, an extension ministry of the conference.

PEACE WALK: Burbank Church of Religious Science will host a Walk for Peace, a candlelight walk and prayer vigil around the church’s labyrinth from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at 260 N. Pass Ave., Burbank. The event encourages meditation on peace as participants walk a circular path inspired by the labyrinth at Chartres Cathedral in France. Walk for Peace supports a nationwide 64-day Season of Nonviolence, which began Jan. 30 and ends April 4. Walkers will light 64 candles to commemorate the season throughout the vigil. HUMAN RELATIONS AWARDS: Valley Interfaith Council will present Human Relations Awards to individuals who have fostered harmony between the diverse communities of the San Fernando Valley at a fund-raising gala, “Celebrating Diversity,” at 6 p.m. May 7 at the Warner Center Marriott, 21850 Oxnard St., Woodland Hills. Honorees include Beth Sullivan, creator and executive producer of “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman,” and Grammy Award-winning vocalist Andrae Crouch, pastor of the Pacoima-based Christ Memorial Church. PASSION PLAY: Shepherd of the Hills Church will present a production of “The Passion Play,” with highlights such as a three-story set, live orchestra and a simulated earthquake, at 8 p.m. April 3 at 19700 Rinaldi St., Porter Ranch.
