A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck a remote section of the Nevada desert 49 miles northeast of the California ski resort of Mammoth Lakes early Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The 2:43 a.m. temblor caused no damage no injuries. It was in the same general area at the northern end of the White Mountains as several moderate quakes, the strongest 5.3, that have occurred since November.
