Retirement Benefits
Re “O.C. Prosecutors Sue Retirement Board” (March 11):
The Orange County Retirement Board’s decision to make retroactive payments will deprive taxpayers of as much as 17 million a year more of our dollars in order to make former and current [county] workers a bit more comfortable in their retirement. And now the county Attorneys Assn. is suing to say it is not enough.
What happened to the thought that public service meant just that? Now it seems that the first action by those in public service is to reward themselves for being so selfless.
The public employee retirement system merits a closer look by both the media and taxpayers. I’m a public employee, but I’m a taxpayer first. Enough is enough!
