Despite Illness, Sorenstam Expects to Be Ready for the Dinah Shore

Annika Sorenstam, who was feeling ill, pulled out of Tuesday’s pro-am at the $1-million Nabisco Dinah Shore, but her agent said she will be ready Thursday when the tournament begins.

Sorenstam, who tied for fourth last week at the Standard Register Ping in Phoenix where Liselotte Neumann beat Rosie Jones in a three-hole playoff, is one of the favorites in the first major of the year.

Three-time Dinah Shore winner Betsy King is the defending champion in the limited-field event of 102 pros and four amateurs at Mission Hills Country Club.

King made $6,201 when she tied for 30th at Phoenix and became the first LPGA player to pass $6 million in prize money.

Helen Alfredsson, a two-time winner this year, comes into the tournament as the hottest player on the LPGA Tour. Karrie Webb, Kelly Robbins, Laura Davies and Nancy Lopez are also entered.
