Trabuco Hills at Mission Viejo, 3 today: Trabuco Hills’ Suzanne Linn has separated herself from the rest of the county’s best throwers with consistent marks of more than 40 feet in the shotput. She’s also one of the top competitors in the discus, throwing 128-9 to win the Irvine Invitational. Linn will be pressured by Mission Viejo’s Julia Loya, who had a season-best 37-0 at the Irvine Invitational and 35-10 at last weekend’s Jack Bighead Relays.

* Surf City Invitational at Huntington Beach HS, 8 a.m. Saturday: This invitational began last year and is a re-creation of the Southern Counties meet that was held from the 1920s until the early 1980s. Some of the best competition will be in the throwing events, where Esperanza’s Justin Birrill and Travis Pendleton will be challenged by Sam Lightbody of Huntington Beach and Trabuco Hills’ Tony Buonacorsi.
