OCC Dance Professor Shanley Wins Award
Orange Coast College professor Karen L. Shanley has been named dance instructor of the year by the state Community College Organization of Physical Educators.
Shanley was honored at a session Friday at the inaugural Commission on Athletics Convention in San Diego.
A member of the college’s faculty for 22 years--and chair of the dance department for the past 14--Shanley lives in Laguna Beach. She has studied with many of the masters in ballet and modern dance.
Orange Coast boasts one of the largest and most active dance programs of any community college in the nation.
The award comes as the department celebrates its 35th anniversary.
