Young Still Not Satisfied

Although Eric Young is among the team’s hottest players, the second baseman isn’t pleased with his performance.

Young said he isn’t making the impact he hoped to in the leadoff spot--but he’s getting there.

“I’m never satisfied, no matter how well I might be swinging the bat,” Young said. “I don’t consider myself to be hot right now, because it’s only been a few games.

“I haven’t put together a real good string yet, where I’ve been real, real consistent. I’ll know when I’m there, but I’m still not there.”

Young went two for five and scored a run Saturday night in the Dodgers’ 5-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Three Rivers Stadium.

He is batting .303 (33 for 109) with a team-high 19 runs, and is second in the National League with 12 stolen bases. In his last six games, Young is batting .407 (11 for 27) with seven runs.

The Dodgers appreciate what Young has done.

“E.Y. is giving us exactly what we expected,” Manager Bill Russell said.

The bullpen is expected to receive a boost today with the return of right-hander Antonio Osuna.

Osuna left the team Thursday to be with his ailing father in Mexico. Alberto Osuna has been diagnosed with throat cancer.
