My Favorite Weekend

R&B; singer Montell Jordan, whose “Let’s Ride” is a Top 5 single.

Early Start: My wife [and manager], Kristin Hudson, and I begin the weekend on Thursday because a three-day weekend is just not quite enough. It starts with a trip to Universal CityWalk, where I take in a movie and eat some sushi with my lady. After the movie, we bring some ice cream home and lay up and watch TV till we fall asleep--just a romantic thing to start off the weekend.

Bring On the Bubbly: Friday nights, we try to take in a Laker game. Then it’s a nice dinner at Monty’s in Westwood, where we get some lobster tails. Next, we walk around Westwood, as we like movies a lot. I travel so much that I really don’t get the opportunity to see as many movies as I would like. Sometimes, instead of going home, we check into a hotel--a nice big suite just so that you have a different atmosphere that’s away from the house. I have them send some champagne and roses up to the room while we’re at the movies.

On a Roll: Saturday mornings, we go out to Venice Beach and take in some roller-skating fun. Then we have a nice little lunch on the Santa Monica Pier. After lunch, we hop in the car and take a drive up the Malibu coast.

Saturday Night Fever: We often drive out to Long Beach and rent one of those little yachts to ride around the ocean for an hour or two. Or we get on one of those yachts where we can dance. We’re out there dancing on a boat on a Saturday night.

Onto a Bigger Boat: Being that we’re often out in Long Beach, the next morning we usually hit the Queen Mary for a Sunday champagne brunch. I enjoy going to church with my family at Church of the Harvest in L.A. After church, we hit up a soul food kitchen for lunch--something like Aunt Kizzy’s Back Porch in Marina del Rey or Jacob’s Cafe over in South-Central L.A.
