A worker accidentally buried up to his neck in dirt at an Anaheim construction site Wednesday later died at a local hospital, officials said.

Jose Guerrero, 28, was working at the industrial building site on North Miller Street when three of his co-workers noticed he had become trapped, authorities said. The men called paramedics and tried to clear away some dirt so that Guerrero could breathe, Anaheim Fire Capt. Tabby Cato said.

When paramedics arrived, the trapped man was trembling violently, Cato said. By the time rescue workers freed him 15 minutes later, she said, he was in full cardiac arrest. Though paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation in an ambulance transporting Guerrero, he died at Placentia-Linda Community Hospital, Cato said.

Cal-OSHA was notified of the accident at the construction site and likely will investigate, Cato said.
