One man was shot to death and two others wounded Sunday during a gang-related gunfight inside an Anaheim apartment complex, police said.

The three Anaheim men went to the unit on the 300 block of South Rose Street shortly before 10 a.m. to “confront a subject who lives at that location,” Anaheim Police Lt. Joe Reiss said.

“A verbal argument occurred and then shots were fired inside the apartment,” he said. Detectives were unsure who fired the shots or how many were exchanged, Reiss said.

Robert Bustamante, 22, was listed in critical condition at UCI Medical Center with a bullet wound to his chest. A second victim, Oscar Vallarta, 26, was treated for a back wound and released.

The third victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at Anaheim Memorial Hospital, Reiss said.

His name was not released pending notification of relatives.

No motive was immediately established for the shooting, which police said involved members of two rival gangs. Detectives were looking Sunday for a tenant of the apartment who left the building before they arrived.

“One gang got into it with another [gang] and now nobody knows nothing,” Sgt. Jim Moser said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Anaheim Police Lt. John Haradon at (714) 765-1927.
