Boston shortstop Nomar Garciaparra has a mild shoulder separation and will probably miss at least a week, the team said after he was examined Monday.

“It’s very good news,” said team physician Arthur Pappas, who feared ligaments in Garciaparra’s shoulder were damaged. “He’s looking forward to returning. He’s very upbeat.”

The 1997 AL Rookie of the Year was injured Friday while diving for a single up the middle against Kansas City. He missed Saturday’s game and returned to Boston on Sunday.

Investigators from the state of Minnesota can probe back only to 1992 to see whether major league baseball violated antitrust laws, Ramsey County district judge Margaret Marrinan ruled. The decision severely limited the scope of the investigation by Atty. Gen. Hubert Humphrey III, whose office had sought papers going back to 1959.

Humphrey is trying to determine whether baseball officials illegally conspired to get public money for ballparks by threatening to move franchises.
