Granada Hills High has finalized plans for its June 4 ceremony to honor former Highlander quarterback John Elway.

The school will sell 1,500 tickets at $5 each for the 10:30 a.m. ceremony that renames Granada Hills’ football stadium in Elway’s honor. The $5 fee will help defray costs from the ceremony, which includes the football scoreboard unveiling.

Elway, quarterback for the Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl team, will speak during the 90-minute ceremony on the football field.

BASEBALL

Schedule change: The West Valley League showdown for first place between Chatsworth and El Camino Real has been rescheduled for Wednesday at Chatsworth. The game was postponed on Thursday because of a wet field.

The City Section has also changed its baseball playoff seeding meeting from May 20 to May 26 because of additional makeup games.

BASKETBALL

New coach: Darryl McDonald, an assistant coach at San Fernando High the last seven years, has been hired as the boys’ coach at Alemany High. He replaces Jin Park, who resigned after last season.

The youth sports director at the North Valley YMCA in Mission Hills, McDonald, 34, will be a walk-on coach for Alemany, which was 6-18, 0-12 in Mission League play last season.

Heading for the Hills: Nakeisha Perkins, an All-City selection who holds single-season and career records for scoring and rebounding at Grant High, has committed to Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Perkins, a 6-foot center, averaged 16 points and 15.3 rebounds for the Lancers and was most valuable player of the Mid-Valley League. She chose Dominguez Hills over San Francisco State and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

FOOTBALL

More than 75 athletes will be measured for height and weight and will be tested in the 185-pound bench press, shuttle run, 40-yard dash and vertical jump. About 30 college coaches are expected to attend.
