* More than 1,500 children who are treated annually at the Las Floristas disabled children’s clinics, affiliates of the USC School of Medicine, will benefit from the $325,000 raised at the Las Floristas headdress ball on April 24 at the Beverly Hilton. The ball, with its parade of floral headdresses, is a 60-year tradition in Los Angeles.

Elizabeth Dole was honored at the Junior League of Los Angeles’ Spring Gala on April 24 at the Beverly Wilshire. Of the $250,000 netted for Junior League projects, $25,000 will be used for a blood donor project with the Red Cross of Los Angeles.

The Professional Associates of Big Sisters of Los Angeles raised more than $275,000 for services to at-risk girls and young women at the annual “Making Friends” dinner on April 27 at the Century Plaza.

Seamus Heaney, recipient of the 1995 Nobel Prize in literature, received the Los Angeles Public Library Literary Award on April 23 at a sold-out dinner at the Central Library. The event, sponsored by the Library Foundation of Los Angeles, raised more than $200,000 for the city’s libraries.
