Transportation Funds

Alan Ungar’s attack (“A Slice of Pork Can Dice a Budget,” May 10) of Congressmen Buck McKeon’s and Brad Sherman’s actions to bring needed transportation investments to the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys is misplaced and misguided. It is very surprising that a leader of VICA would question the congressmen’s leadership in fighting for a transportation bill that is good for Valley businesses, commuters and the environment.

Funds provided in the proposed House transportation bill will assist businesses in the Valley who use our region’s ports and airports to export products, and improve the region’s freeway and transit systems, enabling tourist and local residents alike to access major entertainment and tourism centers. The House transportation bill and its counterpart in the Senate will provide essential transportation investments to enhance the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys and the region’s economic competitiveness.

It is time for VICA to support members of our congressional delegation who are fighting hard to return a fair share of federal gas tax dollars to the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys.
