Bush, Tolson Have Record Day in Utah
Billy Bush and Christina Tolson of Cal State Northridge earned men’s and women’s field athlete of the meet honors Saturday to cap a stellar showing by the Matadors at the Big Sky Conference outdoor track and field championships at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.
Tolson demolished the meet record in the hammer throw by 17 feet, nine inches with a heave of 196-9 that automatically qualified her for the NCAA championships, and took fifth place in the discus at 138-2 behind teammate Cheri Hicks’ 161-3 winning effort.
Bush broke an 18-year old meet and stadium record in the shot put Saturday with a toss of 62-4 1/2 that also qualified him for the NCAA meet to go along with his 171-8 winning mark in Friday’s discus competition.
The Matador women collected 174 1/2 points to finish second to Weber State (188 1/2) in the team competition. Northridge placed fifth in the men’s competition with 99 1/2 points.
Beth Burton of Northridge finished second to Tolson in the hammer with a throw of 163-6. Brandi Prieto won with a 40-6 in the triple jump and and Nancy James clocked 2:11.27 to win the 800 meters.
