Speed Signs Added to Slow Down Motorists

The West Valley now has two new speed display boards for area streets to deter speeding.

Los Angeles City Councilwoman Laura Chick, who also chairs the Public Safety Committee, worked with the Los Angeles Police Department to obtain the $27,000 to purchase the two new display boards.

The boards work by detecting an approaching vehicle and displaying the car’s speed on a screen visible to the driver, while also showing the legal speed limit.

The speed display boards are not used to help assist police in ticketing drivers, Chick said, but as an educational tool.

More than 200 people in Los Angeles were killed in traffic accidents last year, according to the LAPD.

According to police, drivers moving at speeds too fast for road conditions are the primary cause of death and injury in vehicular collisions.
