Three youths, ages 15 through 17, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after stabbing two other teenagers during an argument Monday, authorities said.

All five youths had been riding an eastbound Orange County Transit Authority bus on Chapman Avenue when an argument erupted among them, police said. Exiting the bus in the 1800 block of East Chapman Avenue about 2 p.m., the youths split into two groups and began fighting, said Lt. Art Romo of the Orange Police Department.

The melee ended when the group of three stabbed the other two teens, leaving a 17-year-old in critical condition at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana and a 15-year-old with a superficial wound, police said.

The three suspects ran from the scene and were arrested by Orange police officers four blocks away. They were then taken to Juvenile Hall.

The crime appears to be gang-related, Romo said.
