Host Families Sought for Foreign Students

Families in Brea, Placentia and Yorba Linda are being sought to host high school exchange students for a three-week visit this summer.

Students from France and French-speaking nations of Africa will study English daily at the North Orange County Community College Continuing Education Center in Yorba Linda.

The students, ages 13 to 17, have studied English in school (many are fluent) and are eager to experience life in the United States, said program coordinator Lorrie Farrelly.

“There are so many benefits to hosting, including learning about another culture and starting up a long-term friendship with students and families overseas,” Farrelly said. “Our volunteer host families find the students quickly become family members.”

The three-week stay, July 8 to 29, will include excursions to such places as Universal Studios and the new Getty Center, to which host families are invited.

“Students’ applications have already begun arriving,” Farrelly said. “Host families signing up now have the chance to communicate before they arrive.”

The program is sponsored by the nonprofit Sejours Internationaux Linguistiques et Culturels. Information: (714) 993-7878.
