Hearing Today on 57-Acre Annexation

The City Council plans to conduct a public hearing today on a proposal to annex about 57 acres of county land.

The land owned by Special Devices Inc., makers of air bag and missile activators, would be used as open space, said City Planning Manager Wayne Loftus. That is in accordance with a plan formulated when Moorpark approved the Special Devices project in 1996.

The Local Agency Formation Commission agreed last month to allow the city to annex the land, located south of the California 118 and California 23 bypass and southeast of Los Angeles Avenue.

The land is part of a 293-acre Special Devices-owned parcel that will be added to the Ventura County Waterworks District No. 1 in return for having water and sewer services delivered to the property, the staff report said.

The public hearing is being held because county records list some of the land as state-owned even though the state already has relinquished its title to the land, Loftus said.
