Woman, 76, Dies After Being Struck by Bus
An elderly woman was struck and killed by a South Coast Area Transit bus at the corner of Main Street and Ventura Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Ventura police, the bus hit the woman while it was making a right turn onto Ventura Avenue. The 76-year-old woman, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, was pushing a shopping cart through the intersection when she was struck.
The bus, driven by Oxnard resident Jack Watterson, clipped the woman with its rear wheels at 1:15 p.m., according to police. She was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Police are still looking for witnesses. Anyone with information about is asked to contact Ventura Police Cpl. John Turner at 339-4435.
