Initial Impressions Not Lasting Ones for Twins

Minnesota scored in the first inning, but that was nothing new.

The Twins scored 13 first-inning in their three-game series against Detroit.

The Tigers scored three times in the 11th inning Thursday, and that made the difference in a 6-3 win.

“We ended up with a chance to win the game, but we couldn’t get a hit,” Twin Manager Tom Kelly said.

Detroit got 17 of them, four by Tony Clark, including a single in the 11th that drove home the game-winning run.

Clark’s four singles helped the Tigers win for the seventh time in nine games. He has reached safely in 14 consecutive games and was seven for 12 in the three-game series.

Brian Hunter led off the 11th with a double off Mike Trombley (1-2), but was thrown out at third on Bip Roberts’ bunt. Bobby Higginson then reached on catcher’s interference, and Clark singled for a 4-3 lead.

Damion Easley followed with two-run double, extending his hitting streak to 11 games. He is hitting .429 (18 for 42) over that span.

Easley has reached in 25 consecutive games.

Detroit had 37 hits in its last two games and has homered in 15 consecutive games.
