School Board Will Discuss Prop. 227 Legal Battle

Share

Fearing the passage of Proposition 227, the June ballot measure that seeks to end bilingual education, the Santa Ana Unified School District board Tuesday will discuss legal strategies to block its implementation in local campuses.

Trustees passed a resolution in April opposing the initiative, saying that voters across the state should not be able to determine what is best for students in Santa Ana.

More than 70% of students in Santa Ana schools are learning English. Parents and educators in the district contend bilingual programs offer the best methods to help students with limited English skills to succeed in core academic subjects.
