Parque Examined, Says He Feels Fine
Pitcher Jim Parque (Crescenta Valley High, UCLA) had a recent start pushed back two days after being flown from triple-A Calgary to Chicago for an examination by White Sox team doctors.
Parque, who was experiencing abdominal discomfort, denied a published report that he was suffering from a hernia. “There’s nothing wrong with me. I’m perfectly fine,” he said in a telephone interview Friday from Vancouver.
In eight games with Calgary of the Pacific Coast League, Parque is 2-3 with a 3.94 earned-run average, best among Cannon starters.
Parque, a left-hander, is considered the top pitching prospect in the White Sox organization. He believes he is close to a midseason big-league promotion.
“I’m real close,” he said. “People are telling me it’s a matter of when, not if.”
Del Marine (El Camino Real High, Moorpark College) reported to his third team of the season this week, when he was sent from triple-A Toledo to double-A Jacksonville by the Tigers.
Marine began the season at Class-A Lakeland, but was promoted to the Mud Hens on April 30. At Toledo, he was the No. 3 catcher and hadn’t appeared in a game in 16 days.
At Jacksonville, Marine will be united with Gabe Kapler (Taft), Robert Fick (Cal State Northridge) and former JetHawk Carlos Villalobos. Jalal Leach (Pepperdine) was recently promoted from Class-A San Jose to double-A Shreveport by the Giants.
