U.S. Women Sweep Japan in Soccer, 3-0

YOKOHAMA, Japan — The U.S. women’s national soccer team completed a three-match sweep of Japan with a 3-0 victory here in front of 34,885 at recently opened National Stadium.
Brandi Chastain scored first for the Americans, who defended well and utilized their speed advantage to outshoot Japan, 19-4. Kristine Lilly’s rebound goal made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute, and Tisha Venturini scored with four minutes left.
