4 Barr Stores Sold
Ganahl Lumber, a 114-year-old Anaheim company with three Orange County stores, is buying four competing stores from Barr Lumber, another longtime fixture in the county, officials said Wednesday.
Barr, founded 95 years ago, is selling its Los Alamitos, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa and Lake Forest stores to Ganahl. Ganahl also has stores in Anaheim, Garden Grove and Dana Point, plus another in Corona in Riverside County.
Terms of the transaction weren’t disclosed. Barr stores will continue to operate outside of Orange County, in Rosemead, Apple Valley, Palms and Yucca Valley, officials said. A Barr facility in City of Industry was expected to close.
Peter Ganahl, head of the company, said it was founded in Los Angeles in 1884 and began operating in Orange County in 1904. Barr was founded in 1903 in Whittier.
