Caution Urged Due to Rash of Burglaries

Share

Twelve unsolved burglaries or attempted burglaries have occurred since February in Moorpark, so authorities are reminding residents to secure their homes before leaving and to report suspicious activity.

The rash of break-ins has occurred on Mountain Meadow Drive, Peach Hill Road and at new developments throughout the city, said Senior Deputy Kory Martinelli of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

The burglaries have all occurred during daytime hours in which intruders gained entry through an unlocked back door or by prying open a sliding glass door. Jewelry, cash and other small valuables have been stolen, Martinelli said.

In some cases, the burglar or burglars knocked at a front door to determine whether a home was occupied, Martinelli said.

Residents should keep doors and windows locked when not at home, Martinelli said.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity should pay attention to details about people or vehicles that might be useful to deputies, he said.

The Sheriff’s Department in Moorpark can be reached by calling 494-8200, Ext. 1, or by dialing 911 if a crime is in progress. People wishing to remain anonymous can call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 494-TALK.
