National Cancer Survivors Day celebrations are held across the nation on the same weekend to call attention to the fact that about 8 million Americans are cancer survivors, according to the American Cancer Society.

More than 1.2 million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed this year along with another 1 million less-threatening skin cancer cases, according to the society.

Cancer survival rates are improving as a result of new research and improved treatments.

The picnic will be held at the Wellness Community at 530 Hampshire Road in Thousand Oaks. To make reservations or to get more information, call (805) 379-4777.
