Temporary Parking Sought for Senior Housing Tenants

With beach side parking soon to be at a summer premium, county housing officials are scrambling to find parking spaces for residents of a low-income senior citizens housing project whose lots will be temporarily taken over by seismic retrofitting equipment.

Residents of Marina Manor, an apartment complex operated by the Los Angeles County Housing Authority, said they were told well in advance about the work, which began earlier this month.

But they were upset to learn only this week that they would be asked to park elsewhere while some of the work was completed.

Emilio Salas, area manager for the housing authority, said officials are searching for 45 spaces near the complex at Washington Boulevard and Via Dolce that can be used daily for three months.

Salas said housing officials are negotiating with Los Angeles City officials about the possibility of obtaining permit-only street parking, and are investigating other options.

Residents’ parking will not be disturbed until a solution is found, he said.
