Checkpoint Planned to Screen Drivers

Share

Officers from two police departments in Ventura County will join together Saturday night to conduct a checkpoint in Oxnard where drivers will be screened for signs of alcohol and drug use.

The checkpoint will begin at 7 p.m. at an undisclosed location. Officers from the Oxnard and Port Hueneme police departments will check for motorists impaired from legal and illegal drug use, as well as whether they are properly licensed.

Drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol could be arrested, said Oxnard Officer Ken Klopman. Unlicensed drivers or drivers with suspended licenses will be cited and their vehicles will be towed, he said.

Residents who want to help reduce the number of impaired drivers in Oxnard and Port Hueneme can call the Oxnard-Port Hueneme Community Action Coalition to Prevent DUI at 385-7490. The coalition will meet June 18, Klopman said.
