Council to Consider Ground-Water Study
The City Council will decide Monday whether to hire a private firm to study the high ground-water problem in the Sutter Avenue area and help residents dry out.
The Source Group is seeking a $37,000 contract to study the problem, devise possible solutions and estimate costs.
The council may also give the Public Works Director Ron Coons permission to add $8,000 to the contract if more exploratory work needs to be done.
With this winter’s steady rains, properties in the Sutter Avenue area have been inundated with a steady flow of water percolating up through their lawns, driveways and sidewalks.
For some, it has slashed the value of their homes; it has left others with damage to foundations and landscaping.
City officials hope that the study would result in a method to drain the excess water, which is high in minerals and bacteria, possibly into the Arroyo Simi and ultimately the ocean.
The City Council meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road.
