Cow Grazes New Avenues With Stroll in City
A police officer at a gas station on the east end of Oxnard did a double take Sunday when he looked up from the pump and saw a cow taking an afternoon stroll down the middle of 5th Street.
The cow had escaped from Chase Brothers Dairy just outside Oxnard and was moseying toward the city shortly after 4 p.m., said Sgt. Cliff Troy.
Police alerted dairy officials, who captured the wayward bovine as she neared Rice Avenue.
Although a few cars swerved to avoid the cow, no accidents were reported.
“Ol’ Bessy, or whatever her name is, was just out for an adventure,” Troy said. “Or maybe it was a late trick-or-treater.”
