Two Los Angeles law firms specializing in entertainment and business litigation are merging, according to partners with the firms.

Alschuler, Grossman & Pines, whose clients include DreamWorks SKG and Fox Inc., plans to formally announce its merger later this week with Stein & Kahan, whose entertainment practice has included work for such clients as Madonna, Sean Connery, Woody Allen and Kathleen Turner.

Marshall Grossman, partner with Alschuler Grossman, said that combining the firms will add legal muscle needed in litigation battles for entertainment clients.

Alschuler Grossman has defended DreamWorks in a copyright suit with a similarly named company, as well as represented DreamWorks partner Steven Spielberg in such matters as a now-settled legal battle with a man who bankrolled him early in his career.

The firm also has done land-use work for Fox, including work related to the company’s acquisition of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Its corporate clients include Tommy Hilfiger Inc., City National Bank and SunAmerica. The two firms would have 35 partners and 19 associates when combined.
