Phone-Book Recycling Drop-Off Sites Announced

To encourage recycling of telephone books, Pacific Bell and the city of Los Angeles have established 13 drop-off sites around the Valley that will be open through Dec. 15.

Most of the recycled paper made from phone books is used to make new directories and envelopes mailed with phone bills, said Pacific Bell recycling manager Susan Lucero. The water-based inks and water-soluble glues used in phone books make them ideal for recycling, she added.

The Valley drop-off sites include seven field offices of City Council members, six library branches and the Department of Water and Power customer service office in Van Nuys. As an added incentive, the DWP will give the first 100 people who drop off at least two phone books a free ticket to a Valley movie theater, Lucero said.

Residents may also place their old phone books in their curbside recycling containers.

Drop-off sites are located at: Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski’s field office, 17547 Ventura Blvd., Suite 202, Encino; Councilman Richard Alarcon’s field offices at 13517 Hubbard St. in Sylmar, 13630 Van Nuys Blvd. in Pacoima and 8128 Sunland Blvd. in Sun Valley; Councilman Michael Feuer’s field office, 14310 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks; Councilman Joel Wachs’ field office, 14410 Sylvan St., Van Nuys; North Hollywood Library Branch, 5211 Tujunga Ave., North Hollywood; Sun Valley Library Branch, 7935 Vineland Ave., Sun Valley; Sylmar Library Branch, 13059 Glenoaks Blvd., Sylmar; Studio City Library Branch, 4400 Babcock Ave., Studio City; and the DWP Customer Service Office, 6550 Van Nuys Blvd., Van Nuys.
