Berkeley Police Seek Help in Finding Suspect

Berkeley police have asked people in Los Angeles County to help them in their search for an alleged killer who may be hiding with friends or family in the area.

Juan Rivera Perez, 22, of Mexico, is wanted in connection with the death of a Berkeley nightclub owner who was shot in the head in December 1996. Perez’s family lives in Mexico in the city of Tanhuato, Michoacan.

Police said they believe Perez is traveling back and forth between Mexico and the United States. He lived in Los Angeles from June 1994 through July 1996, and police said he may stay with relatives and friends in Los Angeles, Compton, Long Beach, Pico Rivera and San Diego.

The city of Berkeley has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to Perez’s arrest and conviction. Perez is described as 5 feet, 6 inches tall, 165 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Police are urging anyone with information to call Berkeley police at (510) 644-6839.
