Workers Begin Repairing Root-Damaged Sidewalks
The state Department of Transportation will begin work this week repairing sidewalks that have been damaged by tree roots along a 1 1/2-mile stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard.
Sidewalks along Santa Monica Boulevard, also known as California 2, will be fixed between Centinela Avenue and the San Diego Freeway, said Caltrans spokesman Joe Brazile.
Workers will remove 11 ficus trees whose roots have damaged the sidewalks during the $50,000 improvement project, he said.
The ficus trees will be replaced by 22 fern pines, each measuring about 6 to 8 feet tall.
Repairs should be complete by mid-November, Brazile said.
