Gucci Widow Jailed 29 Years for Murder
A court in Milan sentenced the ex-wife of slain fashion mogul Maurizio Gucci to 29 years in jail for plotting the gangland-style killing of her billionaire husband in 1995. Patrizia Reggiani Martinelli’s four co-defendants were also convicted. Before sentencing, she made a final plea for mercy before a crowded courtroom, saying she was naive and involved in the murder only against her will. Her lawyer said she turned to him in bewilderment after the verdict, while fights broke out between police and journalists pushing to get closer to the 50-year-old woman dubbed “the Black Widow” by Italian news media.
