The American Renegade Repertory Company was awarded a $225,000 loan by the Community Redevelopment Agency to complete construction of its theater on Magnolia Street, in the North Hollywood Arts District.

Approved Monday by the Los Angeles City Council, the loan will allow the theater company to complete projects such as lighting, carpeting, painting and installing a neon sign, said David Cox, president of the group.

The $750,000 theater is expected to open in February, and will feature a variety of live shows, Cox said.

The CRA previously awarded the company a $50,000 “facade loan,” to complete the exterior of the building, Cox said. In addition to the CRA loans, he said, his nonprofit organization received a $550,000 federal loan to help build the theater.
