Crime sweeps by 175 officers in central Los Angeles have put 85 people behind bars, an LAPD spokesman said Thursday.

Officers from the Career Criminal Apprehension Task Force left their Central Division command center at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, targeting fugitives, parolees and drug offenders, Officer Don Cox said.

By 8:30 p.m., mass arrests had taken place in South-Central Los Angeles, Boyle Heights, Highland Park and Pico-Union, Lt. Ken Hillman said.

Most of the arrestees were booked in a mobile booking station in a Parker Center parking lot. Seven women were taken to the 77th Street Station jail, he said.

Cox said that crime dropped significantly after a similar sweep took place about a month ago in which 48 people were arrested on felony charges.
