Governing Magazine Honors CEO Mittermeier for Public Leadership

Governing magazine has named Orange County CEO Jan Mittermeier one of its 11 public officials of the year.

Judges said they picked Mittermeier because of her work leading the county out of its bankruptcy and her efforts to modernize county government through reorganization, performance measurement and improved procedures for making long-range decisions.

“Personally, it’s very gratifying,” Mittermeier said in a statement. “But beyond that, I’m proud that it gives recognition to the substantive work that’s been done in this organization by so many people to achieve the goals we set. They all share in this honor.”

Governing, an 86,000-circulation magazine that covers state and local government, will hand out its fifth annual awards Nov. 18 in Washington, D.C.
