To improve its responsiveness, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office will sponsor its fourth “Outreach Saturday” event this week to help families with child support issues.

Anyone with questions or concerns about the child support services they are receiving from the district attorney’s office can make an appointment to speak with a family support service representative between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Encino office, 15531 Ventura Blvd.

According to a county supervisor-appointed family support advisory board, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office was recently ranked the worst in the nation in its child-care collection rate, collecting child support in only 8% of 500,000 cases.

“The Outreach Saturday events are another way to resolve the problems people are having with child support,” spokeswoman Yvonne Palmer said. “A lot of people can’t come into the office during regular business hours, so we make the special weekend hours available.”

Palmer said 80 to 90 people are expected to take advantage of the extended hours. Appointments must be made by calling the Encino office at (818) 386-6113.
