Eastern Washington Drops a Bomb on Montana State Title Hopes, 31-24

Griffin Garske hit Bashir Levingston with a 43-yard touchdown pass with 5:31 to play and Eastern Washington knocked Montana State out of the Big Sky Conference lead, 31-24, Saturday at Cheney, Wash.

After Garske found Levingston in the right corner for their second touchdown connection of the game, Lithian Tyler of Montana State (6-3, 4-2 in conference play) fumbled the ensuing kickoff.

Brad Packer recovered for Eastern Washington and Nick Reynolds kicked a 23-yard field goal with 2:54 left.

The Bobcats drove to Eastern Washington’s 36 but Rob Compson was sacked by Alvin Tolliver to kill the drive.

Mike MacKenzie rushed for career-high 226 yards and two touchdowns for the Eagles (5-4, 4-3).

Levingston scored on a 58-yard touchdown pass play and has six touchdowns on 10 pass receptions this season, averaging 34 yards per reception. He has scored three times on kickoff returns and three times on punt returns.

Compson completed 18 of 28 passes for 266 yards, and Oscar Caballero caught eight for 159 yards and a nine-yard touchdown.

Northern Arizona 20, Weber State 17--Travis Brown connected with Francis St. Paul on a 63-yard touchdown pass play with 13:50 remaining and the Lumberjacks snapped a three-game losing streak at Flagstaff, Ariz.

Weber State (5-5, 3-4) lost its fifth consecutive game despite Morgan Welch’s 121 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Welch, who needed eight yards in the game to break the school single-season rushing record, scored on runs of 10 and two yards to give the Wildcats a 14-0 lead.

He has 1,492 yards this season, breaking the record of 1,378 yards set by Lee White in 1967.

Brown completed 19 of 44 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns to St. Paul, who caught a 10-yard scoring pass with 7:38 left in the first half to get Northern Arizona (5-5, 2-5) to within 14-7.

Mike Goldstein kicked field goals of 46 and 42 yards.

Cal State Sacramento 36, Idaho State 13--Sophomore Charles Roberts rushed for 246 yards and broke the Big Sky single season rushing record while helping the Hornets (5-5, 3-4) win at Pocatello, Idaho.

Roberts has 2,083 yards, surpassing the record of 2,079 set by Archie Amerson of Northern Arizona in 1996.
