3-Acre Site Proposed for Hotel, Resort

Developers from Texas have purchased about three acres on Figueroa Street and Harbor Boulevard in Ventura and submitted a proposal to build a luxury hotel and resort on the site.

The land across from the Ventura Fairgrounds at Seaside Park was recently purchased by Texas residents T. M. and Marty Mian, president and vice president, respectively, of Dominion Equity.

In recent years, the land, which formerly belonged to Texaco and was used as an oil storage facility, has been the site of police SWAT competitions, in which officers scaled the remaining oil tanks in a test of speed and agility.

If approved as is, the hotel would be 12 stories tall with about 250 rooms, conference facilities, a restaurant, retail shops, and indoor and outdoor pools.

A circular tower filled with suites would face the waterfront promenade.

“I think Ventura is looking for a full-service hotel that they can be proud of,” Marty Mian said. She said she and her husband have purchased a home in Camarillo and plan to move there from Texas.

Mian would not say which hotels she is in negotiating with, only that they are well-known.

The city’s Design Review Committee will consider the proposal Monday.
