In response to feedback from residents and city officials, the Orange County Marine Institute is rethinking and downsizing its expansion plans, officials announced at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
The institute has been planning a $1-million expansion for months. More recently, institute officials decided against a 48,000-square-foot expansion. Harry Helling, vice president of the institute’s science programs,g said the institute expansion will be less than 30,000 square feet. Residents have said they fear the expansion might block views.
