A weekly update on the progress of former Orange County prep athletes now in college.

BYU WOMEN’S SOCCER

* County connections: Laurel Simpson Roderick and Aurelin Weidner of Capistrano Valley and Sarah Higham of Mission Viejo.

* Worth noting: BYU, 19-4-0 and ranked 13th in the country, faces UCLA today at 1 p.m. at Westwood in the second round of the NCAA soccer playoffs. BYU advanced Thursday by defeating Stanford, 6-1. UCLA (17-3-1, 7-20) is ranked 18th in the nation.

CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS WOMEN’S SOCCER

* County connections: Jenae Veal of Ocean View and Heather Williams of Canyon

* Worth noting: Dominguez Hills won its third consecutive conference title with victories over UC Davis and Cal Poly Pomona. Veal scored the game winner in the second overtime of a 1-0 victory over Davis. Williams, the Toros’ goalkeeper, has 10 shutouts this season.

CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS CROSS-COUNTRY

* County connections: Mara Caples of El Dorado, Araceli Martinez of Estancia, Donna Mills of Newport Harbor and Christine Riel of Mater Dei

* Worth noting: Dominguez Hills missed qualifying for the NCAA nationals by only 17 points at a recent regional meet. Martinez finished second overall and Mills fourth, meaning they qualify for the nationals as individuals.
