Though she wants to become a nuclear physicist when she grows up, Elizabeth Moore, 11, will have to settle for musical composer for now. Moore and Jeremy Siskind, 12, recently performed their works along with seven other young composers at the National Yamaha Junior Original Concert in Madison, Wis. Both Irvine youths, who spent a year on their compositions, study at the Yamaha Music Center.

At the concert, Moore, a sixth-grader at Harbor Day School in Corona del Mar, performed “A Little Story,” inspired by E.B. White’s book “Trumpet of the Swan.”

Siskind presented “Peanut Butter Cup Jam,” a six-minute piece. Siskind, a seventh-grader at Venado Middle School in Irvine, aims to someday exhibit his musical talent in movies or plays.
